Balance
Our Balance classes are a great way to practice safety and stability with standing, walking, or other daily activities.
Balance with Molly (10/14/24)
This week, Molly brings 5 exercises to the workout that blend Balance and Bone Health.
Fall prevention – specifically preventing fall-related fractures – is an important strategy to protect bones long-term.
These exercises challenge all the different stages of a fall, including:
1) Pre-Fall 2) Near Fall 3) Fall-Landing 4) Completed Fall.
Balance with Molly (10/14/24)
This week, Molly has a fantastic workout planned, consisting of 5 balance exercises to challenge both body and brain.
Plus, the circuit-style format allows for cardiovascular effort as well. Stay active during the rest breaks and transitions to keep the heart rate up!
Balance/Agility with Meredith (9/2/24)
Balance is great in practice by itself, but layering agility on top of balance exercises can unlock a whole new challenge!
We’ll perform 4 rounds of the 5 exercises, with 45 sec of work and 15 sec of rest.
Balance with Molly (7/8/24)
This week, Molly’s class will integrate breathing strategies with functional movement to improve balance.
Breath strategies can help improve respiratory rate, heart rate variability / stress, and core stability through regulating intra-abdominal pressure!
Balance with Sarah (4/22/24)
In this class, Sarah will focus on balance exercises that incorporate dual-tasking challenges. She will offer 3 levels of each exercise (Seated Ball Toss, Single Leg Sit to Stand, Single Leg Stance with Shoulder Rotation, Around the World Lunges, Walking Healthlifts, Tray Balance).
Be ready to experience a mild loss of balance while you challenge your mind and body!
Balance with Sarah (3/11/24)
For this Balance class with Sarah, be ready to experience some mild loss of balance while working your core, shoulders, quads, glutes, and intrinsic foot muscles.
Remember, information from 3 sensory systems in the body is integrated & processed in the brain. The brain decides on a motor output to coordinate the desired movements while maintaining balance. It is important to train and maintain our balance system for overall well-being and movement efficiency!
Balance with Molly (1/15/24)
This week, we have Molly taking us through some foundations of Balance. Molly will offer 3 levels of each of the moves below.
Be ready to challenge your core control, balance, and stability!
Balance with Sarah (10/30/23)
We learned from the Sunday Scoop that pain can affect our balance. Sometimes pain can be scary, 👻 but it doesn’t have to be.
If we acknowledge any weak links in our stability caused by pain, we can use that knowledge to practice staying upright even better!
Balance with Molly (9/4/23)
This week, Molly will take us through balance challenges focused on learning how to fall – better!
Class will include techniques to help prevent falls, avoid injuries if there is a fall, and get back to your feet efficiently after a fall.
Balance with Molly (7/10/23)
This week, Molly will take us through balance challenges that will train some of the muscles that support our respiratory health, including the intercostal muscles and the diaphragm.
Balance with Sarah (5/15/23)
This week, we have Sarah back in action to teach Balance! These training intervals will expose you to some familiar balance exercises like single-leg stances and dual tasking – but with added twists!
Balance with Molly (3/20/23)
Pertubation-Based Balance Training (PBT) challenges our ability to act quickly in response to a sudden disturbance, requiring agility, coordination, and strength.
PBT will be a big focus for Monday’s class. Many of these movements are new to us, but I can almost guarantee we will have fun!
Balance with Molly (1/23/23)
This week, we will work on static balance exercises, as well as a few movements that can aid fall recovery.
Molly will re-introduce two movements that can be challenging, but remember we will have 3 levels to choose from so you can dial in what feels right!
Balance with Molly (11/21/22)
This week, Molly will introduce some balance movements that we have not practiced before, which will incorporate lower body strength and trunk control.
Balance with Molly (9/26/22)
Molly will highlight some familiar balance exercises, but will include some new balance challenges in our interval workout! Class will focus on falls prevention with practice of rapid inhibition, plyometrics, and Vestibular Ocular Reflex (VOR) training.
Balance with Molly (8/1/22)
Posture and balance go hand in hand, and have a bidirectional relationship. Finding improvements in posture translates into improved balance, and vice versa! Molly will take us through exercises in training intervals that will challenge our balance in several different ways.
Balance with Molly (6/6/22)
We will continue to practice balance by challenging both our muscle stability/control in this class. We will also tap into our vestibular system with quick turns while walking!
Balance with Molly (4/11/22)
This class will focus on practicing balance in some less-than-ideal scenarios. For example, we will use asymmetrical movement patterns (i.e. weighted carries) or alter sensory input while moving (i.e. keeping eyes closed or walking on unstable surfaces).
Balance with Molly (2/14/22)
Are you ready to Fall in Love with Fall Recovery? We’ve got just the class for you ❤️. Molly and James join forces to review important tools that can safely and successfully get you up off the floor when you may need it the most!
Balance with Molly (11/22/21)
Molly will guide us through some familiar balance training like dual-tasking and navigating obstacles. She will also dive into some new concepts including the pendulum lunge and the curtsy lunge.
Balance with Molly (9/27/21)
Molly will bring back some balance exercises we have practiced, as well as a new movement called the Pallof press! We will offer levels of this move, but be ready to challenge your core control, balance, and stability.
Balance with Sarah (6/7/21)
Today's class features a new instructor, Dr. Sarah Contrada, DPT, who leads us through a challenging group of balance exercises that are also guaranteed to get your heart rate up.
Balance with Molly (12/21/20)
Dual Tasking
Lateral Plyometrics
Forward Plyometrics

Fall Recovery with Molly (10/26/20)
In this class, Molly introduces strategies to improve your ability to get up from the floor.

Primer
Molly joins Josh & Meredith to introduce the principles and importance of balance training. They discuss the main body systems involved in balance and how they can be trained to help prevent falls.
